Every crossword solver's favorite (and least favorite) goose is Hawaii's own nene. This bird used to be every bit as popular as that Celebes ox called an anoa, but lately, these creatures hardly ever make the grade. What happened to all the nenes once they were no longer needed for crosswords? Some are now in captivity. The one pictured above is at Busch Gardens in Tampa—that's right, the once-proud nene is now forced to listen to rollercoaster screams all day and have idiot teenagers try to mess with her.

I have not found the anoa, but hope to document its postcruciverbal whereabouts soon.
